Getting Ready For A New Baby Is Exciting, And Stressful
If you are pregnant and you’re getting ready for a new baby then this is super exciting…but there is also an element of stress involved in this. You must be getting as much done, and preparing yourself as much as you can before your baby gets here because once they arrive there is likely going to be more chaos. It’s going to be hard to think straight, let alone learn anything or think about what you need to buy.
But, luckily for you, that’s what we’re going to be covering today. Down below, we’re going to be talking about some of the things that you can do to get ready for your new arrival. So, keep reading if you want to know more.
Your Ultrasounds
The first thing that we’re going to talk about is your ultrasounds. These are a great way to get ready for a new baby as you get to see that all is progressing well, see your little one, and feel more connected to them than ever. We know that you are growing them inside your body, but sometimes it’s just nice to see them on the screen, you know?
You must attend all of your ultrasounds so that they can check your baby out, ensuring that they are okay. It’s at these ultrasounds that they can pick up if there is anything abnormal going on and get you treatment if needed, or let you know if there is something you should know about your baby. It’s information like this that can help to know when the baby is born, especially if it has a genetic condition that you would like to know about.
Buying Baby Clothes
For a lot of people, one of the most exciting things that they get to do before their baby gets here is shop for clothes. It can be super fun to pick out cute outfits for your little one, it helps it all feel as though it’s real, and you get to see the reality of how small they are going to be. Of course, we’re not saying that everyone enjoys doing this, but the majority of people do because there are so many to choose from. So many stores carry baby clothes, there are varieties such as onesies, pajamas, sweaters, sleepsuits and so much more.
You want to make sure that you have enough clothes when the baby is born. You don’t need to go crazy and get loads of clothes seeing as they are likely going to outgrow them pretty fast anyway, but you still need to get enough. Ideally, you should have a clean item of clothing for them to wear every day so seven sleepsuits for example is a good number to have. As well as the seven outfits too. We say this, but you never know how many they are going to soil in a day, so it’s always helpful to have spares.
Purchasing Baby Essentials
As well as clothes, there are other baby essentials that you are going to need to buy, and if you can get most or all of them bought before you’re due, it’s going to be easier to manage. This way, you have about six months on average to get everything that you need, rather than trying to cram it all into a month at the end. But, what kind of essentials do you need? Well, you’ve got the diapers, the wipes, the rash cream, the warm blankets, and the other general items.
You then need to think about having somewhere safe for them to sleep such as Newton baby cribs and other brands that are just as good. You need toys for them to play with, though not too many when they are super small as they don’t care much for them. Bottles and a sterilizer if you’re going to be using them, a pump if you want to use one of these and so much more. It’s best if you make a list of essentials, otherwise, you may end up missing out on something by accident.
Learning About Safe Sleep
We strongly recommend that you start looking up safe sleep before you have your baby so that you can get a solid grasp on this before they arrive. There are a few different options when it comes to safe sleeping, and you need to understand that just because someone on TikTok did something that isn’t deemed safe and nothing happened, doesn’t mean it’s okay. It means that they were lucky. It might be the case that many people are lucky, but you never know who isn’t going to be, and it doesn’t seem worth the risk.
In order to create the safest sleeping environment for your baby, you should have them in a clear space that they cannot roll out of and that nobody can roll onto them. There should be no pillows, blankets, or stuffed toys in their bed, and also no cot bumpers if they are in a cot. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to safe sleeping!
Preparing For The Lack Of Sleep
You can do your best to prepare for the lack of sleep, but nothing is ever going to properly prepare you for what this is like if you haven’t been through it in the past. If you’re used to not getting a lot of sleep then this may not impact you too much, but if you are used to getting your eight hours per night as recommended, then this is going to be a huge change. Babies generally wake every two to four hours depending on how old they are and what they need. Some wake more frequently and some wake less frequently, but you still have other things to do. You still have chores to do, washing to do and so much more, so your sleep time may be limited by this.
At the very least, it will be broken sleep which can be hard in itself.
Getting Ready For The Birth
The final thing that we’re going to be looking at today is getting ready for the birth. Some people say that you don’t want to read too much about birth before you get to experience it, but we don’t think this is a good idea. We think it’s best to be informed so that you can make informed decisions about what you want from your birthing experience. Do you want a water birth? Do you want a hospital or home birth? Pain medication or a natural birth? Are you okay with a c-section if needed? It’s things like this that all need an answer prior to you going into labor.
You’re also going to need to pack your hospital bag full of your stuff and stuff for the baby because once you’re in labor you’re going to need it all with you!
We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now are aware of some of the ways that you can get ready to have a new baby. There’s a lot to do, and depending on where you are in your pregnancy, there may not be a lot of time left for you to do it all. You’ve got this though, we know that you do and it’s just a case of dedicating yourself to doing and learning as much as you can before your little one gets here. We wish you the very best of luck and hope that you enjoy your time with your new little one once they arrive.
