1. Watch Out for Sun Cream, Salt, and Sand

Each year, UK residents made 19.1 million visits abroad. As most of us (quite understandably!) want to escape the British weather, we head in swathes to the nearest hot climate.

However, the weather on the beach or on your balcony is a luxury watch's worst nightmare. It’s all to do with the three S’s. It’s recommended t keep your watch shielded from sand, dust, sweat, water, cream, and direct sunlight.

However, unless you keep your watch in the cupboard or are spending the day in a dark cave, it’s practically impossible to protect your watch from all outside influences.

So, if you do want to take a stroll with your summertime jewels, be sure to thoroughly clean your watch after use to get rid of any abrasive chemicals. And to prevent fading, limit the time your spend wearing your watch in the sun.

2. Be careful with water

Changes in the outside temperature, paired with sweat and suncream can impact your watch’s ability to withstand water.

So your beloved TAG Heuer watch doesn’t succumb to the elements, be extra careful with your watch while swimming – if it’s waterproof that is! Once you’ve been for a dip, make sure to clean your watch with a soft cloth and cool water.

If you’re unsure of your watch's capabilities, get advice from the retailer you purchased your watch from. Before you go on holiday, ask them for model-specific care instructions and book in for a routine check-up when you’re back, to ensure everything is as it should be.

3. Swap to a bracelet rather than a strap

Leather straps are timeless. But unfortunately, they’re also fragile. Sensitive to damp, bright sunshine and even cosmetics, holidays can be the end of the road for leather watches.

To avoid ruining the leather, consider switching to a metal or nato straps for your holiday. As a more durable option, you needn’t fret about sweat or water breaking ruining your watch. Just give the metal bracelet a wipe with a cloth – and you’re good to go.

Now you know how to care for your watch it’s time to board that flight, explore that country and make memories in style.
