Keeping Connected and Working Remotely; How Companies, Government and You Can Benefit

We are witnessing a paradigm shift in the work-home relationship. You and I gain flexibility in our lives, while businesses and governments can cut overheads and MORE. Over the next few minutes, we will GO OVER the advantages and disadvantages of remote and hybrid employment.

We know why this paradigm shift happened. The pandemic forced the augmentation of life and business operations for survival. The experience opened many minds to the question, “If I can work at home now, why can’t I all the time?” At the same time, company boards were meeting (remotely), saying to each other, “If they can work from home, imagine the savings on infrastructure, internal communications, and expenses!”

I do not know your EXPERIENCE over that time, but we should be smart enough to learn lessons from this. For those whose careers allow remote and hybrid work relationships, you can enjoy a wider world.

I type from experience; remote work is fantastic. We make choices about where we will live and what school our children will go to based on where we work. The average person spends less than ten days a year outside the city where they work. Choose wisely. Now you can choose anywhere.

  • Staying engaged is as easy for managers and staff. Could-based sharing can include various levels of security so data can be maintained in one location, accessible 24 hours. Time zone differences can cause scheduling issues but proactive engagement and reminders help everyone stay on time. Phone calls and messaging make two-way communication easy.

  • Management can be concerned over distractions. That is a good plan in any office environment. Working from home for the day, or on a beach for three months has shown increased productivity. Who knew, that happier people produce more? What new magic is this?

  • When you work from home, you will never be late. Funny but true. Remote and hybrid workers produce less absenteeism. There is no need to take a holiday from work when you work in a holiday location.

  • The same can be said for talent retention. Businesses invest in training and educating their staff. Job satisfaction is high due to the many reasons stated. Why would they leave?

  • Companies will benefit immensely through fewer expenses on utilities, infrastructure, maintenance, and human resources. Happier workers produce more. When your company can save money, you should be interested. Entire IT, management, HR, finance, sales, marketing, design, development, and consulting departments can work remotely.

  • Private and public sectors can cut costs. When the government can save money, we all should be interested. 37% of all workers in Australia have a hybrid or remote work environment. Only 13% of the government has been able to integrate. Although they work remotely, it is not considered remote work. If the office of the day is sand, you are in the office.

Disconnect and stay plugged in; you can work from any social, political, or climate environment.
