About Nanaimo River, British Columbia, Canada
The Nanaimo River is situated south of the city of Nanaimo on the east coast of beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The river is abundant in swimming holes, small beaches, and lagoons that are perfect for a family picnic, or day trip. There are also many miles of great hiking trails going up and down the river that take you through the gorgeous lush green rainforest. The water is amazingly clear allowing you to seen right to the bottom in many spots and during the summer months can warm up to around 25C (77F).
How to Get There
Though the outflow can be found emptying into the ocean, the nicest parts of the river require a bit of a drive to get to. The drive along Nanaimo River Road is a nice one and leads you through splendid countryside that is abundant in quaint farm homes.

Nanaimo River Canyon
The Nanaimo River Canyon is located near the village of Cassidy and features the WildPlay Elements Park Nanaimo which is a facility that includes a bungee jump of around 44 meters (143 feet) off a bridge. The canyon also provides an excellent place for rock climbing enthusiasts to hone their skills.

Fishing
The river provides excellent fishing opportunities and you can catch Steelhead, Coho salmon, Cutthroat, and Rainbow Trout as well as nice big crayfish. Upriver is the Nanaimo Lakes which also has great fishing.
