Between the Slovak cheese and the Bratislava Castle

Enjoy Bratislava on the perfect brink of traditional and modern- Cheese dishes, an imposing castle, and a whole lot of good time!

Slovakia is a country rooted in traditions, starting from its visual culture, to dance, food, or architecture. Its identity is very strongly built on the customs from years long gone, and it makes for a beautiful base in a bustling city like Bratislava.

As the capital of the country- Bratislava is a city like no other. It is the cultural hub of all Slovakia, and it is becoming a melting pot of cultures very rapidly. It is a place where the old meets the new. The historical meeting the urban. And it is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the Slovak culture, while not being completely overwhelmed by its foreign character.

One of the first monuments you notice upon your arrival is the imposing Bratislava castle, perched on the top of the city hill, overlooking the Danube River. The castle is perhaps the most prominent feature of the city, and it has shaped its image, and history, in many ways. It is a monument which, once almost completely burned down to the ground, regained its vigour, and is now restored to its beautiful architecture. A visit to Bratislava is never complete without climbing the steep hill, all the way to the stunning gardens with views all over the city. You might even spot your capsule at CHORSfrom up there!

While you are on the path of discovering the Slovak culture, and you have already experienced the breath of history from the castle hill, you might want to treat yourself to some traditional Slovak food. Halušky, Slovakia’s most famous, and feared, dish is simply a must. The homemade potato dumplings, covered with the Eastern European cheese- bryndza, and topped with crispy bacon, is a true heaven in the mouth for almost every Slovak. However, the specific and unfamiliar taste of the cheese can sometimes prove to be downright indigestible to foreigners. Give it a try, you are in Slovakia after all!

After you have eaten some wonderful food, stroll around the Bratislava streets, with your belly full, and look for the signs of traditions even more. You will find them on every corner. Be it in the buildings’ architecture, the old cafes, or the craftsmanship products on sale in some shops. There is so much to discover when it comes to the rich history of Slovakia.

Bratislava is truly the perfect base to start of your journey into the country. You will get to ease into its culture, and its customs, and you will be ready to embark on a journey which may one day bring your to all corners of the beautiful country.
