History of the Boquer Valley
The valley can only be accessed via hiking trail. The beginning of the trailhead is marked by an old ranch house called Finca Boquer. The valley is also said to have once been the historical home to the ancient Pre-Roman city of Bocchoris, which initially gave the name to the valley. All around the valley, you will see remnants of the city’s ancient walls and structures, though the area has not been excavated enough to see anything signifigant.
Wildlife in the Boquer Valley
The area is also popular with bird-watchers and wildlife enthusiasts for its varieties of birds, goats, lizards, and other wildlife. Perhaps the most unique creature that roams these hills is the Balaerean Boc, which is a larger species of goat that is endemic to the Balaeric Islands. It is thought to have been brought here by Phoenecian settlers around the year 2500 BC. Over several thousand years the goat had evolved into its own unique species. Nowadays the Balearean Boc’s numbers are dwindling due to interbreeding with domesticated feral goats.
