Hat Rock State Park, Oregon
Hat Rock State Park is situated in Oregon, USA just off U.S. Highway 730 and is around 9 mi east of Umatilla. It lies on the picturesque shores of Lake Wallula which is part of the dammed Columbia River. Hat Rock has an interesting historical past and is known as the first notable landmark that was recorded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on their way down the mighty Columbia River.
The park is situated in the desert and is surrounded by sagebrush hills and unique formations of basalt. It features a large green space that offers visitors a chance to cool off under the shelter of cottonwood trees. There is a boat ramp that provides excellent access to Lake Umatilla, which is a popular fishing spot and is great for catching walleye, sturgeon, and other species of fish. Watersports are also common on the lake and lakegoers can enjoy waterskiing, jet skiing, swimming, and boating. The park also has a pond that is conveniently stocked with rainbow trout.
