Kaleden Hotel Park, Okanagan Valley
About Kaleden Hotel Park, BC
Kaleden Hotel Park lies on the shores of scenic Skaha Lake and is one of only two public parks located in the beautiful lakeside village of Kaleden, British Columbia. Kaleden is a small and quiet community that relies on the good weather of the Okanagan Valley to produce excellent crops like fruits and wines.
Kaleden Hotel Park makes a nice stopover and is an interesting attraction for anybody hiking on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail going from Penticton to Okanagan Falls or vice versa. It features several picnic tables as well as a small cove with a sandy beach.
Directly across the street from the hotel attraction is Kaleden’s original general store which is equally as old but is still in working condition. This building has stayed open throughout the years in one way or another and was home to a general store, a candy-making business, a mechanic’s garage, a restaurant, and private living quarters. The park is also just a short walk from the amenity-filled Pioneer Park.

History of the Kaleden Hotel
The park itself gets its name from the shell of an old hotel that was built back in 1912 when Kaleden was in its heyday and was fast becoming a boomtown. The hotel only operated for two years until World War I broke out the hotel was forced to close its doors. The hotel never did reopen as improving roadways reduced the need to stop in Kaleden and the town never fully reclaimed its former glory. Over the years the empty hotel was stripped of anything valuable and now all that remains is the ghostly frame and the remnants of failed dreams. That being said it is a neat place to visit especially for history buffs.
