Scenic Canyon Regional Park, Kelowna
About Scenic Canyon Regional Park, Kelowna, British Columbia
Scenic Canyon Regional Park is an incredibly gorgeous and underrated hiking area that is located on the outskirts of Kelowna, British Columbia. The park lives up to its name and offers visitors the opportunity to explore a “scenic canyon”, and its amazing geologic formations. The canyon is a must-see attraction for anybody visiting the Okanagan Valley and will take your breath away at every corner.
The park entrance is situated high above the canyon where you will start your hike. Immediately you will pass by a beautiful old pioneer cabin that was generously donated to the park by a local family. Not soon after that, you will be treated to a view of one of the Okanagan’s most interesting formations known as Layer Cake Mountain. The mountain has volcanic origins and is the only one of its kind in the world. Over time the mountain was further carved out by water and wind erosion giving it the odd layers you see on its surface. The erosion in Scenic Canyon is perhaps most evident in the giant rock spire known as the Pinnacle Rock. Keep in mind that the Pinnacle Trail will not take you to the actual spire, but instead lead you to viewpoints where you will get an epic view of this unique formation.
