About Secret Beach
I want to start by saying that Belize is an absolutely incredible country, which is full of unique and interesting sites and attractions, but none has captured our thoughts like Secret Beach. We found out about Secret Beach by looking at a map and checking for new places that we could explore with our golf cart rental. For those who don’t know golf carts and bicycles are the two main modes of transportation on the island, which definitely helps maintain the relaxed vibes.

I would agree that Secret Beach is not a secret anymore, but damn near and when we were there it seemed pretty laid back and was exactly what we were looking for. Our only regret was not finding out about this place till pretty much the end of our journeys in Belize. But we will surely return one day with family in tow, so we can show them one of our all-time favorite Airbnb rentals, Secret Beach Cabanas.

How to Get to Secret Beach
Secret Beach Cabanas is located on beautiful Ambergris Caye, also known as “La Isla Bonita” and it’s probably thanks to Madonna that San Pedro is now a bustling little city. Though San Pedro is not a bad place and is beautiful in its own right, it doesn’t compare to Secret Beach.
I suggest renting a golf cart, as you will need to drive across the island to get to Secret Beach and that is a neat adventure in itself. You will drive through some unique wilderness and you may even spot some wildlife, such as crocodiles. I kept my eyes peeled the whole time and sure enough, I spotted a small croc in the water along the road. Of course, I pulled over to wrangle it, but it didn’t want any of this and took off, then a Belizean guy pulled over and showed me his video of a thirteen-foot crocodile that he saw down the road. There are also tons of iguanas and lizards everywhere, which are pretty cool to see.

About Secret Beach Cabanas
This little property is not a big fancy hotel where you can stuff your face all day with no regard for your health, nor is it a place where a new act takes the stage every night and jumps around in spandex, but instead a place to unwind, feel the warm weather, the tropical breezes and just relax, with a nice cold Belikin. That definitely sounded like an advertisement, but you know what? It is an ad! Only I’m actually not doing this post for money, but instead, because I genuinely enjoyed my time at Secret Beach Cabanas.

The property itself consists of four total rental units, which are situated directly oceanfront to some of the most beautiful crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. The cabanas are wonderfully colorful, just like you’d want your Caribbean house to be and they are immaculately clean both on the exterior and the interior. Each rental has its own patio equipped with chairs where you can chill out and watch the amazing sunsets that can be witnessed almost every evening. Also underneath two of the cabanas is a great place to take an afternoon nap in the hammocks they’ve provided. The inside of the cabanas are nicely decorated and equipped with a powerful ceiling fan. There are no air conditioners, but with the windows on all four walls combined with the fan and the tropical breezes, trust me you will not need an A/C. They each have their own spacious bathroom with a lovely shower and warm water.
There is also another room for rent located above the office building, which happens to be perfect for families and has a large lounge area with a bar and spectacular views of the water.
One of the coolest things for me was the fact that Secret Beach Cabanas is entirely off-grid and very eco-friendly, which is certainly commendable, and in a place like Belize where sunshine is abundant, it makes all the sense in the world.

What to Eat
At Secret Beach Cabanas breakfast is included and it is prepared fresh every morning by Iris, who is one of the managers. She is Belizean, so for us, it was something different and exciting every day and we love to try new cuisines.
Out front by the beach is an excellent bar and restaurant called Aurora’s Grill, which offers delicious traditional Belizean food and drinks. There are nice relaxing places to hang out and they also have picnic tables perfectly placed in the water where you can cool off and watch as schools of fish swim by. The staff is lovely and very welcoming to their guests. I suggest getting the bucket of beers, which comes with six beers on ice, and then taking it out and sitting in the water at one of the picnic tables. We did it and had a blast and got to watch all the interesting sea life swimming around our feet. This way you don’t have to go back and forth to the bar and you can actually save yourself some money by purchasing six at a time. Also, the snorkeling conditions here couldn’t get any better and on most days the water is as smooth as glass and you can walk out hundreds of meters.

What to do in Secret Beach
First of all, Secret Beach is all about chill vibes and that’s what people come for, so take wild and crazy adventures out of the equation. Though I’m sure there’s someone out there who would say, “Ya mon, I’ll show a wild and crazy adventure”, for the most part chilling out is the order of the day. What I will suggest though is to check out a map, take a few beers to go, and walk heading south along the beach passing through all the bars and restaurants until you get to the pristine Hidden Beach. It is an amazing spot and if you're lucky like us, you’ll get it all to yourself.
I also recommend watching the sunset at Aurora’s Grill, it is absolutely breathtaking and it made for the perfect end to our day at Secret Beach. We sat there and couldn’t stop taking pictures, because just when we thought it couldn’t get nicer, it did.

Conclusion
I would like to say that the owners of Secret Beach Cabanas, Aimee and Mike have done an excellent job creating this gorgeous little off-grid resort. The management Iris and Julian are great people and very welcoming to their guests, giving you a friendly Belizean welcome. They seem to want their guest to have a great time and love to make you feel right at home.
Overall we had a short, but very reinvigorating time at Secret Beach Cabanas and we were in all honesty kind of saddened to leave. But the positive vibes that we absorbed during our stay balanced it all out and we couldn’t help but leave with smiles on our faces.
