Willis Palms Trail
About Willis Palms Trail, Palm Springs, California
The Willis Palms Trail takes you to a natural oasis caused by a water spring that leaks from the earth and allows for the growth of a Palm forest. Located in the vast and dry desert of the Coachella Valley near 1000 Palms and a short drive from Palm Springs, California. Willis Palm Oasis is part of several oases in the area that are the result of the San Andreas Fault line which runs directly under the park.
You will find an abundance of desert creatures that call the oasis home such as the protected Coachella Fringe-toed Lizard. Some of the oases also contain rare types of fish species that swim in warm salty waters.
The Willis Palms trail is an easy hike that is essentially just a stroll through the desert and once you reach the palm forest you can climb up and get some shots of the sprawling desert vistas. The hike is a mere 10-minute walk but if you like take the 6.6 km loop trail that heads off to the right shortly after the parking lot.
