Playa Olas Altas, Puerto Vallarta
Playa Olas Altas (High Waves Beach) is a nice sandy beach that lies in the Zona Romántica area of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. PV is situated in the state of Jalisco and is the tourist hub of the region. The beach itself is just south of the Cuale River and is one of the most convenient and centrally located beaches in the city. Even with its excellent location Playa Olas Altas is much less crowded than its neighbor Playa Los Muertos. That being said the two beaches are essentially connected and it can get pretty lively during holidays.
Playa Olas Altas offers beachgoers the convenience of snack stands as well as tables, chairs, and umbrellas for daily rental. There are great views of the beautiful Los Muertos Pier, which was built to look like a giant sail and has spectacular lighting at night. Across the street is the Lázaro Cárdenas Plaza which is an open-air market where locals sell souvenirs and trinkets. There are also small grocery stores and beachfront bars where you can get nice cold cocktails and good Mexican and Western food.
